It’s funny how love works. Years ago, I was looking for ways to avoid a man and now, after a whole lot of events, I’m married to him! Love indeed works in mysterious ways. At an age where social media fraud has been increasing a lot, trusting people over the internet is not easy. And being in a relationship with a stranger is off the limits – that’s what I thought. Considering the number of women and men who have cheated or engaged in fraudulent activities by befriending on the internet, I was in no shape to be with a complete stranger.
In 2016, I had met a man on Facebook. He had sent me a friend request and after accepting we had our initial talks about hobbies, interests, likes, and more. He was charming and even looked pretty good! Even though I was enamoured with him, I kept my distance. We talked day and night and as days went by, our friendship became stronger.

One day out of the blue, he asked me to be his girlfriend. I was shocked but agreed to date him. And mind you, we still didn’t meet each other even if we lived in the same city. However, after a week, I politely told him that I wasn’t ready to commit to anything when in reality I was just afraid of getting hurt by a complete stranger on the internet. The idea that we befriended each other over Facebook stuck to my mind and it prevented me from taking the relationship forward. He said nothing but agreed. We still talked to each other a lot, despite what happened that week. And as I distracted myself with other stuff, a year and a half quickly passed. I had moved to another country for my college education and it was the best time I ever had. We still kept talking to each other during that time and somehow, through the years, I started liking and trusting him seriously.
After I came back to my country, he surprised me at a cafe and that was the first time I saw him. He was tall, dark, and extremely handsome and I was instantly smitten. He was charming with his deep baritone and there was a different vibe to him that comforted me. And as we met a few more times, he proposed to me. I was shocked and asked him to discuss it later. It must have hurt him but I wasn’t going to take such a big plunge yet.
A few days later, he turned up at my house suddenly. I was very scared since my parents knew nothing about this, but after some tea, my parents quickly understood who he was. My mother gave me a glance of approval and needless to say, I was happy yet scared. My parents wanted me to marry him! And respecting my parents’ wishes, I did. They loved his personality and manners.
And so, I finally married that guy and he was elated! We have been married for two years now, and it has been wonderful. He loves me so much that I feel I should never have mistrusted him. Crazy how social media romance can be so delightful!
