SURAT: A former BJP councillor, Ramesh Gotawala, who was part of the saffron camp for almost 35 years, quit the party and joined Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday along with 35 of his supporters.
Gotawala first said that his ideologies have changed which forced him to change camps. Later he alleged that workers are not being given their proper due by the BJP. “People who have been supporting (BJP) are now having second thoughts. I, on the other hand, believe in serving people so my supporters and community members encouraged me and I joined AAP,” said Gotawala.
“Many others were going to join AAP but due to Covid guidelines we decided against gathering a huge crowd and only 35 of my supporters formally joined the new party,” Gotawala said. He was elected as councillor from ward 13 during the board of 2000-05.
