The Apple-Epic Games trial has revealed some other important details too, like data of Xbox console sale of Microsoft. As per the data, which is based upon what Lori Wright, Xbox VP of business development, testified to during the trial, the tech giant has been selling the Xbox consoles at a loss, making zero profit on them, claims a report by Softpedia.
Wes Earnhardt, the lawyer of Epic Games reportedly asked the Xbox VP this: “How much margin does Microsoft earn on the sale on the Xbox consoles?” to which she responded, “We don’t. We sell the consoles at a loss,”
“Just to be clear, does Microsoft ever earn a profit on the sale of an Xbox console?” Earnhardt continued. “No,” came the answer from the Xbox VP.
As per the report, Microsoft is suffering from a loss from its gaming hardware sales. As per analyst Daniel Ahmad, Sony isn’t faring too good in the same department. According to him, “both the PS5 and the Series X/S are being sold at a loss right now, but will become profitable down the line most likely.” Nintendo, on the other hand, seems to be the only company whose consoles are fetching it profits, claims the report.
According to a report by Eurogamer, Nintendo earned its best ever operating profit of $6 billion last year, and its second-best year of revenue, at $16.6bn. Its Switch console has reached a new landmark this year by selling 84.59 million units and 587.1 million game copies.
